An International Volunteer Project (IVP) is a short term project (2-4 weeks) bringing together a group of young people from many different countries. The group lives and works together on a specific project in a particular community.
These can range from looking after turtle eggs in Mexico to helping prepare Buddhist festivals in Asia. The main categories of project are: Social, Environmental, Children, Art and Culture, Renovation and Construction.
Volunteers on these projects arrange their own travel and pay a small project contribution to cover the costs in involved in administration. In return, volunteers can expect to have their food and accommodation provided free at the project.
IVPs take place in over 70 countries worldwide, with over 1600 diverse and exciting projects throughout the year. In each project we work together with local partners, which not only helps keep costs to a minimum but ensures the project best suits the local community's needs.
At the moment, because we are such a new organisation, all our IVP volunteers from Scotland are sent through our partnership with UNA Exchange. UNA Exchange are an organisation based in Wales who our members have worked very closely with for many years. The best current IVP list is on their website, linked to below. All volunteers sent through our partnership with UNA Exchange will receive one year's free membership with us.

Xchange Scotland are delighted to announce their first International Volunteer Project (IVP) in 2008 - the Kingslink Community Carnival.
This project will see 12 international volunteers coming from many countries round the world to live and work together in Glasgow to help promote and organise a community Carnival in the Knightswood area of the city.
The Kingslink Carnival is the biggest event on the calendar for the local community charities of this area. The event aims to celebrate the new cultural diversity of the area and bring everyone together in a positive spirit of inclusion and expression. The Kingslink Carnival features music, sports, food, games and a parade amongst other activities. The work of the volunteers will be of great help to the community charities to build the capacity of the Carnival and to better achieve its aims.
